3D for tech products

Production notes

A tech product sells on its details.3D shows them one by one.

Earbuds, controllers, keyboards, accessories: a tech product is judged on its finish, its buttons and what is inside. 3D shows each of these points under the light that suits it.

In short: 3D suits tech products because it shows materials, reflections, see-through components and exploded views, from the product’s 3D file. My rates: one image from one angle, €450 to €600 excl. VAT; three angles, €700 to €1,100 excl. VAT; an animation up to 15 s, €900 to €1,800 excl. VAT.

What I offer: 3D packshots and films of your product, built from its 3D file, with the materials, lighting and views your product page or launch needs.

Production notes

Materials first

Brushed metal, glass, matte or glossy plastic: on a tech product, materials tell two similar models apart. In 3D, each material is set up on its own, with the light that brings it out.

For Devialet’s Gemini II earbuds, the film moves from white surfaces to components revealed through transparency. This film was made as a subcontractor, without a direct commission from the brand.

Show what cannot be seen

An exploded view separates a product’s parts to show how it is made. It is built from the 3D file, part by part.

For Norma, a stainless steel disc that blocks chosen apps on iPhone, the renders show the object in close-up, stacked, in an exploded view and on a desk, through to the brand’s website screen.

From packshot to launch film

The same 3D scene serves the still images of the product page and the launch film: the product, materials and lighting are not rebuilt.

For SCUF × ZetFar, ZetFar contacted me to reveal the SCUF controller in its video. After the brief and references, I sent still images for approval, then delivered the stills and an MP4 film, in about two weeks.

What to send

The product’s CAD file, preferably STEP or its native format, photos or a sample, color and material references, then the intended use: product page, social media, launch.

Without a CAD file, the product is modeled from drawings and photos, which takes longer.

What I offer

I create 3D packshots and films in Cinema 4D and Octane, with previews to approve before the final render.

My tech projects for clients: SCUF × ZetFar, Nor.ma, the Google Pixel 11 space with Orchid Creation and, as a subcontractor, Devialet Gemini II. The PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Asus and iPhone projects on this site are personal or fictional, and labeled as such.

One image from one angle costs €450 to €600 excl. VAT, three angles €700 to €1,100 excl. VAT, an animation up to 15 s €900 to €1,800 excl. VAT.

Frequently asked questions

Have you worked for tech brands?

Yes: for SCUF France with ZetFar, for Nor.ma and for a Google Pixel 11 space with Orchid Creation. The Devialet film was made as a subcontractor. The other tech projects on the site are personal or fictional.

Can you work from our CAD files?

Yes, it is the best starting point: STEP preferably, or the native format. Without a file, the product is modeled from drawings and photos.

How much does a 3D packshot of a tech product cost?

One image from one angle, €450 to €600 excl. VAT; three angles, €700 to €1,100 excl. VAT. An animation up to 15 s costs €900 to €1,800 excl. VAT.

Is an exploded view possible?

Yes, from the product’s 3D file, as with the Norma disc.
