Freelance 3D artist rates. From junior to senior.
A 3D artist’s price depends on experience, and on what you hand over. Here are the day rates observed in France and the UK, recorded on 26 October 2026.
In short: expect €130–270 a day for a junior, €300–460 for a mid-level artist and €415–520 for a senior. Studios start around €600 a day. My rate: €400 excl. VAT a day, packshots from €450 excl. VAT.
Day rates by experience
| Level | Experience | Observed day rate | What you can hand over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior | 0–2 years | €130–270 | A simple image from a supplied 3D file, variations of an existing scene |
| Mid-levelMe | 3–7 years | €300–460 | A complete packshot: modeling, materials, lighting and render; a short animation |
| Senior | 8 years or more | €415–520 | A campaign or a product film end to end, art direction included |
| Studio | A team | From about €600 | Several skills in parallel: 3D, editing, sound, project management |
What changes the price
Experience sets a day rate. The project sets the number of days.
The 3D file: a supplied CAD file skips modeling. Without one, the product has to be modeled from photos or drawings.
Materials and set: a neutral background is quick. Glass, liquids, fabric or a full set take more tuning and render time.
Animation: every second is rendered frame by frame. A simple turntable costs less than a film with detailed camera moves.
Feedback rounds, usage rights and deadline: each round of changes adds time. Broad usage or a short deadline also raise the quote.
Price per deliverable
You rarely buy days. You buy an image or a film: the quote turns days into deliverables.
Packshot: the price covers modeling, materials, lighting and the render of one image. Extra angles cost less, because the scene already exists.
Animation: it starts from a packshot scene, then adds duration, camera work and the render of every frame.
To compare two quotes, check the number of images, the resolution, the feedback rounds included and the usage rights. A low day rate with twice as many days ends up costing more.
Where I stand
I have been a 3D artist since 2020: 6 years of experience. My rate is €400 excl. VAT a day: at the top of the mid-level range, below seniors and studios.
My starting prices: packshots from €450 excl. VAT, motion from €900 excl. VAT, set design from €300 excl. VAT with a supplied 3D file. A 50% deposit is due when the quote is signed.
I work in Cinema 4D and Octane Render, with previews to approve before the final render and one point of contact from brief to delivery.

Where these figures come from
Malt 2026, as cited by Join Jump: a freelance motion designer charges on average €266 a day with 0 to 2 years of experience, €333 with 3 to 7 years and €415 with 8 to 15 years. Malt’s own site could not be read directly.
Free-Work: €285 a day for a graphic designer with 5 to 10 years of experience outside the Paris region, €347 in the Paris region. Codeur, a low-cost platform: about €130–175 a day for a 3D graphic designer.
YunoJuno 2026, in the UK: £430 a day for a 3D designer (about €514), £385 for a motion designer (about €460). Framesixty quotes 75 to 250 US dollars an hour for studios: a weaker source, hence only a rough marker at about €600 a day.
