Color variants

Production notes

One 3D scene, every color. No reshoot needed.

A product that comes in eight colors needs eight sets of images that match. In 3D, the scene is built once and serves every variant.

In short: once the model, lighting and framing are approved, each variant is a material swap in the same scene. It mostly costs rendering and checking time. Images stay identical from one color to the next, which suits product pages, color pickers and configurators.

What I offer: I build a scene of your product for your approval, then render every colorway and finish with the same angle, lighting and framing.

Production notes

How it works: one scene, many materials

The longest part comes first: modeling or importing the product, setting the lighting, choosing the angles. You approve this first render before any variant.

After that, each color is a material swap in the same scene. The camera and lights don’t move: only the color changes.

So a variant mostly costs rendering and checking time. That is why a wide range is a good fit for 3D.

Colors, finishes and materials

Changing a shade on the same material is the simplest case. Going from matte to gloss, from plastic to brushed metal or to a clear part takes more tuning, because light behaves differently.

Give a precise reference for each color: Pantone, RAL or your brand’s values. A color on screen depends on the screen: a physical sample remains the reference for tricky shades.

If the logo or label changes with the color, send each version as a vector file. Placement is set only once.

Product pages, color pickers and configurators

On a product page, the shopper clicks a color swatch and the image changes. With identical angle and lighting, they see only the color difference, with no jump in framing.

For a configurator, the image count grows fast: colors × angles × options. List the combinations before the quote and name the files after your product references.

A transparent background on request lets you place each variant on your own background or theme, with no clipping work.

What a variant costs

My base rates: one image from one angle, €450–600 excl. VAT; three angles, €700–1,100 excl. VAT. They cover the first version of the product.

The price of a variant is set in the quote. It depends on the number of angles, how different the materials are and any marking to adapt. The online estimate lets you enter the number of color variants per product.

A new color may come after delivery. Source files aren’t included automatically: if you want to keep them, add them to the quote.

How I produce your color variants

I build the scene in Cinema 4D and Octane Render from your 3D file, your CAD or drawings and photos. You approve a preview of the first color before I render the others.

I deliver each variant as a high-res PNG, with the same angle and lighting, transparent background on request. For an animation, the same scene can serve too, as MP4 or a PNG sequence.

I work directly for brands or as backup for agencies and photo studios, white-label if needed. Use the online estimate, then send your list of colors with “Request a quote”.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 3D color variant cost?

It is set in the quote, based on the number of angles, the material and the marking. The first image costs the most, because that is when the scene is built.

Do I need a unit in every color?

No. Pantone or RAL references are usually enough. A sample is still useful for a shade or finish that is hard to judge on screen.

Can a color be added later?

Yes, if the scene is reused. Include the source files or a scene reuse in the quote, since they aren’t included automatically.

Can the variants feed a configurator?

Yes. Same angle, same lighting and a transparent background on request: images swap without a jump. List the combinations before the quote.
